The holidays are quickly coming upon us, and VISTE is in need of our help. Mid-Florida SHRM has volunteered to make Thanksgiving meal deliveries on Wednesday, November 27th, and we are hoping you can join us. We know the elderly will be incredibly grateful for your generosity.

We will be meeting at the RP Funding Center at 2:15pm on Wednesday, November 27th. Once there, you will be provided your deliveries and further instruction.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email mfshrm@gmail.com with the word "VISTE" in the subject line. We are so thankful for your willingness to volunteer in our community in service to the elderly. If you have any questions, please let us know at mfshrm@gmail.com!

We wanted to take the time to encourage employers and members to participate and register for booth space at the Countywide College Career Fair, happening September 27th. All eleven higher education institutions in Polk County will have students attending. Last year, they had more than 200 students attend and 40 employers. It is a great opportunity for area businesses to recruit to fill their open positions or to connect with future employees. The flyer for the event can be found here.

The event will be on Friday, September 27th from 10:30am-1:30pm at the Polk State College Lakeland campus. Below you'll find the link to register through Handshake. You will need to set up a free account with Handshake (if you don't have one already), but after that the registration process should be simple.

    https://app.joinhandshake.com/career_fairs/11824/employer_preview

Please be advised that first priority will be given to companies who have opportunities in Polk County. If there is still space at the event after those employers have registered, then companies with opportunities outside the county will be able to attend as well.

SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) recently awarded our Mid-Florida SHRM its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the Chapter's accomplishments in 2018.

The EXCEL award aligns individual chapters’ and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes major accomplishments, strategic activities, and tactical initiatives that elevate the profession of human resources.

“So much of SHRM’s success in shaping better workplaces—where employers and employees can thrive together— is owed to the hard work of our chapters and state councils such as Mid-Florida SHRM.  Through their courage and leadership, Mid-Florida SHRM is driving true, measurable progress toward the healthy, productive, and dynamic workplaces of tomorrow,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Awarding this Platinum Excel Award is just one small way for SHRM to recognize and celebrate the big steps this chapter has taken this past year.”

The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. Mid-Florida SHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on its website, and information to share with its members about the significance of this award.

CONGRATULATIONS MID-FLORIDA SHRM ON A JOB WELL DONE!

Polk Vision is asking our members to participate in their workforce feedback process. There is no cost and breakfast or lunch is provided. Through this round-table discussion, they are looking for HR industry representatives to provide feedback regarding the current workforce and educational environments.  This will assist them in providing feedback to the area educational institutions (including the colleges and Polk County Schools) about any deficits in training or skills. This could ultimately result in curriculum and programming changes to correct these issues.

Multiple round-table discussions will be held throughout Polk County. Click the link below to find the closest one to you.
